ASSIGNMENT BOOK
Students will fill out their book with daily assignments in the morning, and stamp it for any homework each afternoon. They will check it over with their parents every night, and return with it signed the next day. I will mark it if an assignment was not handed in or was incomplete. I will also initial that any homework handed in was completed and received.
GRADING
Students will receive daily, weekly, individual, partner, group and homework grades in 4th grade. They will be split between percentages and participation points earned each day. All of the points earned are added together and divided by the total number of points possible to give the final grade. Any assignment done together will have a "T" at the top of the page. If an assignment is done with help or in a small group, that will be written on the page. **Students: no matter what the situation, you should come and ask me if a grade is confusing to you. I am always available to talk. I do have high expectations for you and ask that you give 100% of your effort every day. That way, you can be proud of the work that you hand in!
Grading Scale: A 90-100% B 80-89% C 70-79% D 60-69% F 59% and below
Grades are entered weekly into Powerschool. Please contact the office if you need a password to login.
CORRECTIONS OF STUDENT ASSIGNMENTS
We encourage parents and students to review papers at home and to self correct. Our goal is for your child to do their work correctly and to the best of their ability the first time through without the need for corrections. Any paper 69% and below may be corrected for ½ credit. Any paper returned to a student for corrections is due the next morning. Tests are excluded.
ABSENCES
Attending class every day is very important, however, if you have to miss, you will be given time to make up your work. You will have 2 days for each day of being absent to complete and hand in your work.
WHOLE BRAIN CLASSROOM
If you come for a visit, our classroom might seem a little strange. That's because we learn through Whole Brain Teaching; a research based system that utilizes all areas of the brain, and keeps children engaged throughout their lessons. It is an extremely interactive form of instruction that delivers information to students in small pieces and helps them retain it. It is a blast! If you'd like more information about this, please visit www.wholebrainteaching.com
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
Our rules are an adaptation to the 5 WBT (Whole Brain Teaching) rules.
1. Follow directions quickly. 2. Listen while your teacher is talking. 3. Raise your hand to speak or leave your seat.
4. Make smart choices. 5. Be safe and honest.
The students are encouraged to make learning fun and not give up. Positive reinforcements are a big piece to the management system used in the classroom. Be ready to have each student come home and tell you about the brag tags that showcase their personal accomplishments.
MORNING MEETINGS
Every morning we will go over our daily goals and our Daily Ag statement together as a class. We will greet each other and do an activity to get our brains started. This will foster care and respect for one another and get all the students ready to learn. In case you want to ask your child about their morning greeting, our daily themes are as follows.
MOVE IT MONDAYS: We will great each other using some kind of movement…essential for some Monday mornings!
TELL ME ABOUT IT TUESDAYS: We will great each other with a prompt about how we feel.
WOULD YOU RATHER WEDNESDAYS: We will greet each other by answering a would you rather question.
THOUGHTFUL THURSDAYS: We will greet each other by telling our partner our reaction to their favorite part of the week.
